About Us

our_historyTrinity Evangelical Lutheran Church was born in 1970 as three Lutheran congregations (First English, Grace and Our Savior’s) united together.

The name Trinity (meaning “three in one”) described this merger, but more importantly it reflects the one God in three persons we serve: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Since 1970 the congregation has offered people in the town of Ponoka and Ponoka County, a hospitable Christian community that worships the Triune God, provides Christian education for varied ages, ministry to youth and families, assistance to those dealing with life’s tragedies and support for local and global missions.

On January 27, 2013 Trinity voted to join Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ, an association of congregations who are free in Christ, accountable to one another, rooted in the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions and engaged in God’s mission to the world.

Trinity ELC has been served by the following pastors:

  • Otto Goos (1970-73)
  • Harold Felstrom (1973-76)
  • John Cobb (1976-1981)
  • Arno Bablitz (1981-82 – Interim)
  • Paul Swedberg (1981-1993)
  • George Friedrich (1993-94 – Interim)
  • David Schumacher (1994-2010)
  • Tim Graff (2011-Present)
