Welcome Home Friends

Welcome_back_kotter_1977Back in the 1970’s there was a TV sitcom called “Welcome Back, Kotter.”

The series followed Gabe Kotter, a wisecracking teacher who returns to the high school he grew up in to teach an unruly group called the “Sweathogs.”

The principal of the high school expected nothing from this group of “losers” except that one day they would drop out. Kotter, however, sees their potential and befriends them because in his day and time he was a founding member of the Sweathogs.

This coming Sunday we have our annual “Welcome Home Sunday.” On this day we will come together as people who are like these “Sweathogs,” both broken and filled with potential. We bring both parts of our humanity to this assembly we call Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

It is God who sees our potential and desires to welcome us, befriend us, heal us and fill us with life.

This Sunday and this coming year we want to also invite and welcome others whose lives are filled with brokenness and potential. Together we want to grow in our ability to be friends the way God wants to be our Friend.

This Sunday we begin a series on friendship and what it means to foster faith shaping friendships.

Come and join us and bring a friend.
