The Latest News

LatestNews_HEADERS-1I must be having a good time since this blog is coming out late. The other possibility is that other things just took priority. It’s probably a little of both.

Last week my family and I headed to Winnipeg to give our daughter our old Jetta. It also enabled us to visit my parents and welcome back to Winnipeg our oldest daughter who had been living in Toronto.

On Sunday we attended a large Pentecostal church. One of our daughters is searching for a home and wanted to try this one out. I was greatly surprised, however, to see only about a hundred people in a sanctuary that could hold eight hundred. The pastor preached a law-based message on the rapture which led me to wonder whether the other seven hundred people had already been taken. This was definitely not the church for my daughter and I look forward to being among my Christian family at Trinity next week.

A fourteen hour trip brought us safely back home and to the job of finding a replacement for the vehicle we gave away. I hate making decisions about big investments like this. Do I buy cheap for the short-term or invest for the long-term?

This week I’m also trying to get in some study and preparation for this fall while trying to finish off the renovations to our living room.

This was our life this past week and your life probably looks just as full and disjointed.

This coming Sunday seminarian Eric Osness will be preaching. I’m not sure what message God will bring through him. The Gospel this Sunday has Jesus say:

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

In the midst of vacations, trips, family visits, sharing and caring, worship, cars, investments, study and renovations we hear these words of Christ. Deny self, take up your cross and follow me.

How am I doing that in the midst of this journey I am on? Am I seeking to save my life, to protect it and follow my dreams? Or am I letting go and trusting the One who desires to bring me into God’s forgiveness, life and salvation? What about you?
