Yesterday I watched Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup Final. The winning goal was scored from a pass that came through the air, was touched down by the player’s chest and then kicked mid air into the net. Such a maneuver would never have been possible without years of practicing foundational skills.

As a soccer coach I have taught young players those skills. Many times those young players said to me, “This is boring. Can’t we just play?” My response was, “The way you play shows how well you have practiced.”

The same thing can be said about the Christian life. How we live reflects how well we have learned the foundational knowledge and skills related to being a follower of Jesus.

This Sunday we explore the second in our series on Movements of the Spirit: “Foundations.” I look foreword to seeing you in worship.
