Becoming a Local Missionary

gods_missionary_peopleThis coming Sunday missionary Linda Hermann will be visiting with us from Thailand. After worship and lunch she has graciously agreed to put on a short workshop on “Becoming a Local Missionary.”

My wife’s great grandfather was a missionary from Sweden to India and this is perhaps why Beth has some adventuresome blood running through her veins. I, on the other hand, am more cautious about stepping out.

When we think “missionary” we most likely imagine foreign lands, but the mission field has always been outside our doorstep. Yes, as soon as we venture out the door we are confronted with a neighbourhood, a workplace, a school and activities that still need the redeeming presence of Christ.

Even that mission field can scare me. However, I am reminded of these words (Joshua 1:9):

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

I hope you will trust these words and join us this Sunday as we together learn to be local missionaries to a hurting world.
