It’s the day before I head south to Idaho and I’m looking ahead farther than I normally do. I wanted to get this blog ready before I left., but I’m not sure what this coming Sunday will bring or what I am to say.
When I get back I’ll have left behind our very challenging series on Amos and will now be turning to that week before Jesus died and rose. It’s the week we call “Holy Week” and it begins with Palm Sunday.
On that day we’ll gather to enter into worship with Palms waving. Little did anyone realize back then that this story would take a tragic twist.
Life can often be that way. One day, we are celebrating; the next, crying.
The power of the “Hosanna” on Palm Sunday is not in the victory parade of that day, but rather, it is the victory that Christ wins for us on the cross and through his resurrection.
We are a strange people as Christians. We indeed feel the sorrow of death, but also the hosanna of what Christ has done for us and all people. As Paul wrote (1 Corinthians 15:57), “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
So come join us this Palm Sunday as we celebrate a victory that will take us through the cross and into the promise of God’s kingdom come.
