Thomas witnessed Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, but he does not witness Jesus’ own resurrection. And when Thomas hears about Jesus’ resurrection, he does not believe it. When Thomas finally does see Jesus, he proclaims for the first time what no one else proclaims in John’s Gospel: “My Lord and my God.”
God calls us to live belief, proclaiming “My Lord and my God” even when we don’t see Jesus.
Our next worship service is on Sunday, March 17. Over the last number of weeks we’ve been reflecting on the meaning of the cross. This week we will be invited to experience the event of the cross in the Word and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and proclaim with Thomas “My Lord and my God.”
